Overview
Fish Head (locally known as Mushimasmingili Thila) is one of the most famous dive sites in the Maldives and a bucket-list destination for shark lovers worldwide. This protected marine area is home to a large resident population of grey reef sharks.
The site is a circular thila (submerged pinnacle) rising from 30m to about 10m below the surface. The combination of strong currents, nutrient-rich waters, and protected status has created a shark sanctuary where encounters are virtually guaranteed.
The Sharks of Fish Head
Fish Head is primarily known for its grey reef sharks, with counts regularly exceeding 20-30 individuals. They congregate in the current at the corners of the thila, creating spectacular shark walls that leave divers speechless.

Sharks congregate when current is flowing. Strong incoming current creates the best conditions.

Hook in or find shelter behind a coral head. The sharks will come to you.
