Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about learning to dive

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes, basic swimming ability is required for scuba certification. You'll need to swim 200 meters without stopping and float/tread water for 10 minutes. Don't worry - these aren't timed races, and your instructor will help you if you're nervous.

What's the minimum age for diving?

Children as young as 8 can try the PADI Bubblemaker program in shallow water. The Junior Open Water Diver course is available from age 10, with full Open Water certification from age 15. Junior divers must dive with a certified adult.

How long does the Open Water course take?

The PADI Open Water course typically takes 3-4 days. This includes theory sessions (can be done online before arrival via PADI eLearning), confined water training in a pool or shallow lagoon, and four open water training dives.

Can I complete the theory online before my trip?

Yes! PADI eLearning allows you to complete all theory at home before arriving. This means you can maximize your pool and ocean time while in the Maldives, potentially completing your certification faster.

What equipment do I need to bring?

All diving equipment is included in course fees. We recommend bringing your own mask for better fit and comfort, plus a rash guard for sun protection. Everything else - BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins - is provided.

Is it safe to learn diving in the Maldives?

The Maldives is one of the safest places in the world to learn diving. Warm water, excellent visibility, and protected lagoons provide ideal training conditions. All our partner centers maintain the highest safety standards with well-maintained equipment and experienced instructors.
